Family Joy Blog Linkup #56

We had some really nice weather this week. Totally spring-like. It also seemed like a super busy week at our house. That was due in part to New Additions To Our Backyard Flock. Ā Check out that post if you want to see pics of what birds we’ve added. The one place we got some birds from was also a rescue sanctuary. My kids enjoyed seeing the lady’s hawks, owls, emus, and other creatures. My accident-prone middle child managed to trip and fall on top on a snake cage. Luckily none…

New Additions To Our Backyard Flock

New Additions To Our Backyard Flock

Our backyard flock had some new additions this week! I’d been telling my husband I was having chicken withdrawal symptoms and needed to buy new birds. šŸ™‚ It’s so addicting! So many kinds, just not enough space! Last April we got our first birds at a poultry swap. We ended up getting about 15 birds total originally between the swap, Craigslist, and Tractor Supply. However, we sold some and experienced some losses as well. We also bought a few more birds. But now we were down to five birds total,…

Supposed to be close to 70* weather this weekend, at least on Saturday! Ā Crazy for February, but I kind of like it! It’s going to feel like spring and get all of you excited to start writing those spring posts! Anyone garden planning? My husband has said he plans to buy me a bunch of blueberry plants. I should get started researching about how to best grow them. We tried once before but it didn’t work out. A patch would certainly be nice. Blueberries aren’t the cheapest, and my…

Our Second Year Raising Our Own Pork

Our Second Year Raising Our Own Pork

Raising our own pork turned out pretty successfully for us the first time that we tried it. So back in September we purchased two feeder pigs again. It was a little later than we had intended to start raising them, but it just hadn’t suited to start sooner. We started out well, purchasing the two pigs for $84 vs. the $130 they had cost us last time. They were also a little bigger in size. Unfortunately though, one of them started not thriving and my husband noticed him coughing soon…

Maryland Old Bay Instant Pot Chicken Wings

Maryland Old Bay Instant Pot Chicken Wings

This week I made chicken wings in my instant pot for the first time. My husband thoroughly enjoyed theseĀ Old Bay instant pot chicken wings. I’ve been brainstorming to create some new recipes for the instant pot. I’d seen other instant pot wing recipes, andĀ I decided to try to come with a unique twist for mine. I hit on the idea of using Old Bay seasoning. If you are from Maryland, you probably know exactly what Old Bay is. Ā Steamed crabs, Old Bay seasoning, and a cold beer are a common…

So what is everyone’s opinion on Mr. Phil Groundhog seeing his shadow? Personally, I am anticipatingĀ April so I can attend the next chicken swap and get me some new birds. šŸ™‚ However, neither do I want to rush time along too quickly. We really haven’t had much of a winter as far as snow and ice goes. I think my children would like it if we would. But how many want more winter, and who wants spring to just get here already? I’ve been trying to test some recipes…

Local Library Story And Craft Time

Local Library Story And Craft Time

Growing up, I remember visiting our local library often. My mom would take us to pick out our books. We didn’t have a TV, so books were a source of entertainment. I loved going to the library, and nowadays, you hear how important reading is for kids. I do visit the library now with my own children, although not always on a frequent basis. This week though, I took my two youngest to our local branch for the weekly story and craft time. This was a new experience for us….
