Blogging Resources

Hosting Company I recommend:

I started blogging in June 2016. I signed up with a big name company. But three months into blogging, I was having issues with my hosting service. I was receiving error messages, and having slow website loading. So I made the switch to Siteground! One really great thing with Siteground has been their excellent customer service. They were very helpful in walking me thru the hosting transfer, and handled most of it for me. I have not had anywhere near the amount of wait time to reach a friendly human, that I did with my former company. If you want to start blogging, I highly recommend using this company. Or if you need to switch, also consider them. I hear only good things about them.

Plugins That I love:

{Affiliate links to Social Warfare} I may receive compensation if you click on these links. See Disclosures/Policies for more details.

The Social Warfare plugin has allowed me designate a long, vertical Pinterest-friendly image of my choosing for each blog post.  I want pinners to have this when they use the Pinterest share button on my posts. Before I added this plugin, I had to make the featured images on my blog posts long in order for my posts to be Pinterest-worthy. I didn’t really like this, and the featured images weren’t intended to be that type of photo. This was my #1 reason for choosing Social warfare. We all want Pinterest to have the best images possible. But the plug-in has other nice features as well like the customizable tweet option. There is a yearly fee, but they have a 45-day trial period where you can get your money back.

For security purposes I use the Wordfence plugin. It is to help block malicious stuff and prevent your site from being hacked. It can also let me know if it finds a potential problem on my site as simple as a plugin needing updated. I do not pay for this plugin.

I would encourage bloggers to find a way to backup their sites. I currently am using UpdraftPlus plugin. You have a variety of places you can choose to send the backups to, and can schedule how often you want this to perform backups.

Picture Editing Sources

I use the free version of PicMonkey for editing my photos. But to make my Pinterest graphics and picture graphics for social media like facebook, I turn to the free version of Canva
